Iran Launches Fresh Attacks on Gulf Bases After Seventh Night of U.S. Strikes

Air defense systems active over the Gulf region amid renewed military escalation between Iran and the United States.

A fresh wave of military escalation unfolded in the Middle East on 18 July, as Iran launched new attacks targeting U.S.-allied military facilities in the Gulf following the seventh consecutive night of American airstrikes on Iranian military infrastructure. The latest developments have sharply increased fears of a wider regional conflict and further instability around one of the world's most strategically important energy corridors.

According to officials, the United States carried out overnight strikes against multiple Iranian military and logistics facilities. The attacks were aimed at degrading military capabilities and followed several days of escalating exchanges between the two countries. Iran responded by launching attacks toward military sites linked to U.S. allies in the Gulf region.

The situation also intensified around the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly one-fifth of the world's seaborne oil passes. Security concerns increased after reports of explosions involving commercial oil tankers in the area. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incidents while naval forces remain on high alert to protect international shipping routes.

Several Gulf countries activated air defence systems after missile and drone alerts were issued. Emergency response measures were strengthened around key military installations and critical infrastructure as governments monitored the rapidly changing security situation.

Global energy markets are also closely watching the conflict. Any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could affect international oil supplies and increase crude oil prices worldwide. Shipping companies are reviewing routes and security procedures as tensions continue to rise.

Diplomatic efforts are continuing, with several countries urging both Washington and Tehran to avoid further escalation and return to negotiations. However, neither side has indicated an immediate willingness to halt military operations.

The latest exchange marks one of the most serious confrontations between the United States and Iran in recent years. Defence analysts warn that if attacks continue, the conflict could have wider implications for regional security, global trade and international energy markets.
