England Crush India by 125 Runs in Third T20I, Inflict Record Defeat at Trent Bridge

India suffered one of the heaviest defeats in their T20 international history after England won the third match of the five-game series by 125 runs at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Tuesday.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer celebrates a wicket during India’s batting collapse in the third T20I at Trent Bridge

Chasing a target of 202, the Indian team was bowled out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs. England’s fast-bowling pair of Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue completely dismantled the Indian batting order with pace, bounce and aggressive short-ball bowling.

England had earlier scored 201 for 7 in 20 overs. Phil Salt made 70 runs from 44 balls, while Sam Curran added an unbeaten 41 from 24 balls to take England beyond the 200-run mark.

India’s chase never settled. The top order lost wickets quickly, and the team was already under huge pressure inside the powerplay. Only four Indian batters reached double figures, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan scoring 13 each. India’s 76 all out is their second-lowest T20I total, while the 125-run margin is their biggest defeat by runs in T20 internationals.

Archer and Tongue Destroy India’s Top Order

Jofra Archer was named Player of the Match after taking 3 wickets for 29 runs. His opening spell put India under immediate pressure, with his pace regularly troubling the batters.

Josh Tongue was equally dangerous and finished with 4 wickets for 28 runs. The two fast bowlers used short deliveries effectively and did not allow India’s aggressive batting lineup to settle.

India lost Abhishek Sharma for 10, while young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 13. Ishan Kishan also scored 13, but captain Shreyas Iyer could make only 5 runs.

Axar Patel scored 10, while the rest of the batting order collapsed quickly. India went from 60 for 6 to 76 all out, with Adil Rashid and Will Jacks also taking wickets later in the innings.

England’s 201 Proved Too Much

England’s total of 201 for 7 looked challenging, but India had the batting power to chase it. However, the Indian bowlers had also allowed England to recover strongly after taking wickets during the middle overs.

Phil Salt played the main role for England with a confident 70 off 44 balls. He attacked the Indian bowlers early and gave England a strong platform.

Sam Curran’s unbeaten 41 from 24 balls gave England the late push they needed. His innings helped England cross the 200-run mark and put India under scoreboard pressure from the beginning of the chase.

India needed a fast start, but Archer and Tongue made sure that did not happen.

Shreyas Iyer Calls Performance ‘Atrocious’

After the match, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer did not hide his disappointment. He described India’s performance as “atrocious” and admitted that the team failed to adapt to the conditions.

Iyer said the pitch was not a 200-run surface, which made India’s bowling and batting performance more disappointing. The defeat has raised serious questions about India’s approach, team selection and ability to handle high-quality pace bowling in overseas conditions.

India had come into the series as T20 world champions, but the team has struggled in recent matches. England now lead the five-match series 2-0 after the first match was washed out.

A Warning for India Before the Next Match

The defeat is not just about one bad batting performance. It showed that India’s batters were unable to adjust when England attacked with speed and bounce.

T20 cricket requires aggressive batting, but aggression without control can lead to collapses like this one. India’s players attempted attacking shots early, but England’s bowlers kept hitting the right areas and forced mistakes.

The next match in Bristol will be extremely important for India. Another defeat would give England an unassailable lead in the series.

India will need a stronger plan against Archer and Tongue. The team may also need to focus on batting partnerships instead of trying to chase the target through only big shots.

For England, the result is a major confidence boost. Their pace attack looked sharp, their batting produced a strong total and they exposed India’s weakness against fast bowling.
